Pogress, Progress, progress.
Walter is steaming along with the walking and the rest of his therapy at St Mary's. Everyday his legs are getting stronger and he is learning to compensate for the fact that his head is telling him that he is standing straight when he is really leaning over to the right. This makes walking very difficult as you can imagine. (unless you are a crab). Patty and I were his cheer squad yesterday and we had lots to cheer about.
yesterday he was practicing getting in and out of the chair and bed as well as dressing himself. He is amazing. He can do everything, albeit very slowly but he knows how and is getting quicker each time he does it.
The other great thing was how alert he was yesterday. He was more able to answer questions and recall short term information like the date and the fact that Patty is having surgery for her knee tomorrow. His Doctor said that they have started him on a medication that stimulates the brain and helps cognitive function.
Patty tells me that there is a tentative discharge date of July 3rd. This is only if he is walking safely and can take care of himself and he can think clearly enough to make safe decisions. If he keeps up the pace he is going he might just make it. He would still need lots of therapy though as an outpatient.
Walt is still very hard on himself but we did manage to get the odd half smile when he did something well. His mood wasn't helped though when a cyclist appeared fully kitted out in racing gear complete with bike in the dining room. You have to be kidding me! It was a guy coming to visit his granddad. You could see the mixed emotions that it was bringing up for Walt. It didn't stop him from making a joke later in the day though. Patty was talking about all the new nicknames Walt had gotten during this time. Walt then suggested he should be called the "Crash Commander". Also somehow during the day he morphed my nickname of Coco into Cuokoo. Thanks Gino, I initially thought he had gotten confused by your post but then I saw his smile and twinkle and realized he was teasing.
All in all another good day for the Walt Watch Bloggers.
Catch you later.
Cheers

I vote for National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
Rick, there is no other movie that would better fit the moment.
