What a happy, wonderful day!! After days and days of no response from Walter, I walked in and talked to him. He opened one eye and actually lifted his head up. Wow!!! I feel like the happiest person in the world right now!! It will only get better and better for Walter. We all know that this type of injury takes LOTS OF TIME AND PATIENCE. He has had the sacrament "Anointing of the Sick" 3 times. Today was the only time I could actually feel his presence and I know he heard every prayer. It really is a special feeling to have your faith at a time like this. i do not know what I would do without it! We still have a long way to go but we are on the right road. Stop up to see him!! He would love to hear all of your voices!!

Hi everyone- I have been reading the blogs daily and hoping to get up to the hospital by weeks end. I agree with Brian's heart surgeon friend. Just say no! Walt needs continuity of care right now with people that know what is going on. Sounds like Dr. Lance is a glimmer of hope and it would be good if we can keep him with Walt until we get over this hurdle. No more Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine....where the hell is Dr. Howard? Patty- like I keep saying, Walt is so lucky to have you. You are so strong and I admire your tenacity in this horrible situation. Rick- Thank you for "The Walt Watch" I think it is the best thing since sliced bread- we all love your humor! Where the hell is that Nun?- Love your cousin, Linda
I visited Walt this afternoon about 4:30. He had an ultrasound on his legs and arms while I was there. It took quite a while to do and the technicians seemed thorough. Toward the end of it Aunt Anna and JJ visited. Walt responed with head turns to both of them when they spoke. He ignored me.
Earlier, Pam (JJ's mom) stopped in and conducted a prayer. I must admit I was impressed even though I am not "prayer guy" by any means. Half way through her prayer Walter opened his eyes wider than I have seen in quite a while (I think I opened my eyes pretty wide too). He responded to her voice and turned to her as well. He ignored me. I think I would want her on my side if I was ill.
The previous evening I asked the nurse on Floor 5 if she had any ideas about improving communications between Strong and the family. In addition to recommending talking to the doctor on duty (we know that) she said that there is a "Patient Relations" office that would send someone up to talk if the family requested. Maybe that is an additional way for the family to express their concerns and to get better communications and better continuity of care.
Nice job with the blog.

Patty, thanks for this blog and keeping me up to date on Wally's (do people still call him Wally?)condition. I was stunned to hear the news about him and I pray for his recovery.

Hi Patty and family: We are reading the blogs daily and wishing for Walt's speedy recovery. It sounds like he is in goods hands at SMH. We are going up to see him in a couple of days and hopefully get a smile from him and a perhaps a nod. He is in my thoughts and prayers. To the family, stay strong...
Sincerely Sue and Dave
