Too many Indians: No Chief

Just a quick note, today was not an up day. It doesn't seem like there is any one doctor (chief) that is keeping track of the entire picture here. We talked to three doctors today (indians), all of whom were meeting Walt for the first time. And that would be alright, except that there are some issues here...

The kidney failure doesn't seem to be getting any worse (according to the indians), but Walt is on the border of needing dialysis. For now, he is on massive doses of diuretics to get him to make him urinate more. If that doesn't help enough, they will put him on dialysis until his kidneys repair themselves. They'll re-evaluate tomorrow morning as long as all is stable tonight.

One pain-in-the-ass complication is that fluid is building up in his lungs and his blood oxygen level suffers. So they have to aspirate him more frequently than they have been to move out the fluid.

Walt was not awake today, but moved a little bit here and there to try and tug at his tubes.

I was looking forward to posting something really positive for my first time back from my business trip, but I guess that will have to wait.

Keep thinking "clean" thoughts as Walt's kidneys push hard to clear the fluid etc...

This is for Patty and Lindsay from Linda: I know that the hospital chain of command seems endless but there is a chief to all those Indians. Please let me help you. First you need to ask - what "service" is Walter assigned to. At this point I am not sure if he is on "neurosurgery" "medical" etc. Once surgical patients are in for awhile they go to the medical service- not quite sure how it is at SMH. Once you find that out there should be "one chief to all the indians" and request to sit down and speak with him on all that has transpired and what to look for next. Call me if you need me. I hear ya Linda. Here's the scoop. Last night, they gave Patty the name of a Dr who was going to be in charge. This morning, it was a different name: Dr. Bordly. Unfortunately, Dr. Bordly handed the case off (without ever seeing Walt, apparently) to Dr. Guigno and there were two residents there in the ward this morning who were seeing Walt for the first time. Dr. Guigno was not around in fact, they didn't know where he was.

I need two hands to count the number of Dr's who saw Walt for the very first time, within the past 24 hours.

While there might be a system, it appears to be screwed up or, at the very least, not very use-friendly.

I'm sure there is one chief somewhere. How high up the food-chain of adminstrators does one need to go to get to this person?

Sorry, I'm way frustrated.

No sign of chiefs or indians while I was there for a couple of hours. Walt
did have a good wash-up (judging from the time it took) and what sounded to
me (from the safe side of the curtain) like a thorough spanking ..... me
thinks he enjoyed it, he did seem more comfortable :)
Jim's going up this afternoon. See you later.
