Walt Ready For Some Work

Patty says: Sunday was good. Walter was AWAKE, ALERT AND READY TO GET OUT OF BED. NOW IS THE TIME TO VISIT HIM AND GET HIS BRAIN THINKING AND MOVING. PLEASE VISIT AND TALK TO HIM ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BED (BRAIN WORK). IT IS VITAL TO HIS GETTING BETTER!! IT WILL NOT BE GOOD IF HE GETS NO VISITORS AND NO BRAIN WORK. THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE COME TO SUPPORT WALTER. WE LOVE Y0U ALL!!

I took up a pad and marker today. When Walt is alert I invite people to find out if they are useful to interact with Walt. Find out if he can draw, read or write. It would use different skills than talking and listening.

Cousin Linda says: I was watching this documentary last night called "The Secret" it is basically about how the mind controls everything in your life. There was a story about this man named Morris Goodman who was in a small plane accident- he was in the same condition as Walt. He was on a respirator etc. He told his story about how as he was laying in the bed he kept hearing the nurses and physicians saying that he would always be bed ridden- would never walk again etc. However, he kept saying to himself- YES I WILL- I AM WALKING OUT OF THIS PLACE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. Miraculously that is exactly what he did. He said he totally focused his mind on not what had happened but how he wanted to live in the future and his strength of mind brought him to recovery! It was amazing- I was crying and Walt has a strong mind like this man and I know in my heart he will defeat the odds. LOve to all of you. Linda

When I saw Walt on Monday, and he didn't know who I was at first. I showed him a photo of him, me , and a couple of friends having a beer with our fav bartender. When he saw us in the photo I think he understood who I was.

If you have photos of you and Walt bring one with you so he can see both of you together, and tell him who you are. It may helps him remember even if only for a short time right now. Anything that will stimulate his memory might be important

Dave and I went to see Walter on Tuesday morning around 10:30 and he was sleeping soundly so we didn't want to wake him up. We will try again maybe in the afternoon next time. Sue and Dave

Patty says: I love all of your ideas!!Also, I have left a magazine on the sill called "Armchair General". Walter, as you all know, loves history. Please feel free to read to him (from both sides) when you visit. I will also leave his Discover magazine. Thenks again to all who have visited Walter. It means so much to me and is vital to his getting better. Onward and upward Walter!!!
