Patty says: Walter continues to hang in there like the champ that he is. Each week I see more progress. His English is coming back and he was able to tell me this AM that his breakfast was "donuts." I said to him "you are so smart" and he gave me that classic Walter smile and "cute face." His therapy at Nazareth college is over till the winter. That is a bad thing since I am struggling to find him therapy for the summer. If any of his friends could help me work him out that would be great. Basically, it would be simple exercises and supervising him on his floor bike.
Thanks to Tom for setting up the bike and Timmy and Dick for setting up my living room ramp. Thanks again to Geno for everything and thanks Vicki for bringing Tessa over. Yes Kathy she is beautiful and smart. Walter and I really enjoyed our visit with her and hope she comes over again soon.
However, I must get something off my chest that has been bothering me since Walter's accident. There are a handful of his friends that have not been a support to Walter and that is really shameful!! Hopefully, you never will know what Walter has been through and if you do hopefully your friends will not abandon you. Like I said it is just a few but it really hurts. And usually it is the guys that are the closest to Walter. He is still with us and could use a visit or a phone call to hear your voice. I am sure that if the situation were reversed, he would not abandon you.
Thanks to my "special girlfriends" that are always there for me to make me laugh and to share a visit with Walter. He loves you guys very much. And I will be forever grateful for your friendship!
To my neighbors: Walter will be out front with me all summer so stop over and say Hi. I know that he has enjoyed all of your visits.
We are still waiting for his bone flap to be made. Hopefully in the next month it will be ready. It will be great to get that over with.
That is the update for now. Enjoy the beautiful Spring and keep praying for my Walter.

Hi Patty,
I am sooo happy to hear that you have a new van. Your life style certainly does warrant a nice new fully equipped mobility plus Dodge?! Oh well what ever the brand it is exactly what you needed!
Say hello to Walter for me.
Love,
Debby, Bill and Mark
Hi Patty,
Enjoyed the evening last Friday. Thanks for your hospitality!
Walter looked so good! It was great to see both of you.
Love, Peggy
Walt & Patty,
Even though we haven't been able to see you much you are in our thoughts often as we are pulling in & out all the time running here @ there. Frank, the kids & myself will make every attempt to visit you both more this summer when you are outside even if it's for a minute. :-)
Peace & Love,
The Cromey's
Hey Wally and Patty, we hope that this Memorial Day weekend goes good for you and you can get out and enjoy yourselves. Judy and I have the whole family in and will be going to a crawfish boil tomorrow in Galveston. It's your type of affair Wally, plenty of beer and some muy spicy food. I'll hoist a couple in your honor. Keep fighting amigo and know that you both are in our prayers.
Goegs
Patty says: Finally the time has come for Walter to have his surgery to put the bone back in his head. The surgery is scheduled for Monday, June 16th. I think he is the strongest and most alert since he has been home. He is still pretty aphasic but knows exactly what is going on. He has been working hard on his arms and legs. I am giving him lots of ice cream and food to fatten him up before surgery. As we speak he is out with his brother and Tom Wahl for a beer at Holligans. He is going to a medical day program once a week which he seems to enjoy. We have had lots of visitors to keep his brain stimulated. He helped Corinne to decide which card to play when we played euchre. He is still reading lots and watching his "favorite" The military channel. He never gets tired of TV and always told me if anything ever happened to him to "prop him up in front of the tv and he would be fine". And he is.
I want to thank his friends again for their dedication to Walter. Our wedding party guys have really come through for Walter at this most difficult time in his life. Not to mention Tom, Gary and of course Tippy. Tippy has helped me with bringing him to the many, many dr. appts. I was feeling very worn out for a while there. I am going to have surgery while Walter is in the hospital on my other knee. I tore my meniscus in the other knee pushing the wheelchair up and down the ramps.
Walter will probably be in the hospital for 2 weeks. Visitors are welcome!!!
Thanks again to my "special" girlfriends for their continued support. I do not know what I would do without them.
If you want to give Walter a good luck and get well wish, I will read them to him in the hospital. Please continue to pray for a quick recovery from this surgery with no infections to complicate things. St. Jude: Thank you for favors received.
