Walt and I finally got around to watching Young Frankenstein Thursday evening. He wasn't talking but he smiled a few times, especially when Igor (Marty Feldman at right) was on screen and when the monster (Peter Boyle) was shown lying prone on the "soon to be electrified" table.
Prior to the movie Walt was in the dining room, scribbling on a sheet of paper. It wasn't readable but he was certainly purposeful about it. He's was wearing his brace on his left foot. He seemed to have the sweats and a periodic tremor. I took him back to his room because there I could take off his helmet and put the fan indirectly on him which seemed to make him more comfortable. I put his hand brace on--that was tough given that his right hand was really clenched. I simply kept asking him to relax his hand and eventually he was able to ease it enough so that I could get his fingers around the brace.
In the room Walt wasn't interested in looking at pictures or TV, but he really locked-in to the movie. We got about half way through it before he nodded off in his chair at 8:30. If you feel like watching the rest of it with him, the DVD is still in the player. I would like to think that he appreciates both the humor of the movie and the rotten irony.

Patty says: Geno-thanks for bringing up "Young Frankenstein" for Walter. We will finish watching this movie with him on Sat. It sounds like he enjoyed the movie.
Hopefully, with any luck, Walter will soon be moving to a brain injury facility in New York State. I am trying my hardest to find a place that can help him improve. St. Mary's is only allowed to give him 1 l/2 hrs a day of therapy instead of three hours and usually people are only allowed to stay up to 3 months then they have to leave. I am currently looking at a place in the Catskill Mountains. They have to accept him medically and financially. Please pray that someone will accept him. He has a very "complicated" case they tell me. I will do my best to find the best care for Walter. The "system" is so complicated. I have many professionals involved with this to guide me. How I long for a simple, normal day!
Thanks to Tim and Geno for their dedication to Walter. Thanks to Joanne for helping me with therapy again. Walter needs to be stimulated! Visitors would be very welcome and he will be leaving town soon so now would be a good time to say goodby.
Thanks to Sue and Dave for their visit. Walter seemed to enjoy playing ball. I would like his work friends to bring up a tool and see if Walter remembers what to do with it. Anything to stimulate him and I would be forever grateful.
See you at St. Mary's
Pat, let us know when you find something out about Walter moving. It's too bad he can't stay here. It'll be hard to visit him.
Tom: The only places in Rochester are nursing homes and I will not give up on Walter. They would love to put him in a nursing home but I think with a brain injury he needs to go to a place that can meet his most complicated needs. I will find that place if I have to go to California!!
Patty says: Do not go up to the hospital tomorrow (Tues.) from 10:30-2:30. Walter has a drs. appt.
Hi Patty, Rick here. How did the doctor visit go? I'm in Poland right now and just trying to keep in touch. I would have logged in but the buttons on blogspot come up in Polish and, though Walt and I share that heritage, we also share the fact that neither of us can read or speak the language :)
Hey Rick: The dr. visit was to the plastic surgeon to check his head again where the scab was. He would like to wait 12 months to put the bone plate in. He is going to talk to the brain surgeon.
Yesterday, Walter had a good day. Lots of smiles and Walterisms. I am waiting for the Northeast Center to let me know if they accept him. I am praying very hard and everyone who reads this blog needs to pray too. It is his only hope. Like I said before, they would love to through him in a nursing home. I am getting calls from the nursing homes but I will not talk to them. PRAY hard.
Pat, where is the Northeast center. I'll be away for a week or 2, so say high to walter for me. I have a question. Can Walt have a small Nicks Garbage Plate. After the turkey cake and the pureed asparagus the other night, I thought a small plate might be something Walt might enjoy.
Patty says: Tom: Northeast is 1 hr from Albany off of the thruway.Walter has been accepted now I have to convince insurance to pay for this (otherwise I have to pay 79l.00 a day) Yikes! It is what it is.
Walter cannot have a garbage plate yet. He is on purraid food for now because he could not keep his head up to eat because of the "tone".
Thank you Tom for your continued support!! You are a wonderful, caring and kind friend. All friends should have your qualities!! The world would be a better place to live.
Thanks to everyone who visited Walter this week. He had a good week. Hope this continues!!
See you at St. Mary's!!
