Excuse my bad language but I am just so frustrated and upset! Walt has yet another infection. It is a return of the clostridium one and they started him on the Flagyl this afternoon. The good news is at least we know what has been making him ill the last few days. They think that this might also be responsible for the increase in weakness in his right side and the aphasia and confusion which he has been experiencing increasingly the past couple of days.
This symptom was not only freaking me out but had the medical team scurrying around taking yet more blood and checking out all possible things. It was reassuring to see them so on the ball and concerned for our friend. He was also being sent to Strong today for a brain scan just to ensure that there is not anything else lurking.
Other good news is that the urinary tract infection has cleared up. It is a pity that bacteria has gotten so damn particular that one lot of antibiotics can't knock them all out!
Walt continues to inspire me. Although he is often down about not making progress he is really very uncomplaining about all the physical discomfort and pain he is experiencing. For example when the vampire arrived to draw blood today (she was actually a very nice, caring and very gentle lady) she had trouble finding a vein and Walt had to endure repeated attempts to get a couple that would bleed enough for the battery of blood work tests they are running. I kid you not there were 5 big bottles and 3 phials drawn for all the different tests. Throughout the whole process that took about 40 minutes Walt sat stoically without complaint except for the occasional "ouch". When she said that he was "very patient" I was pleased to see his wry smile and "not really" response. he gave me a look that clearly said that he would much rather have let fly with a string of expletives #***!&*%!
Well I feel better now at having gotten that out of my system.
lets hope tomorrow is better.
By the Way, Gino, the donuts were tasty!
Cheers
Corinne

It was a rough morning for Walt, that's for sure. I witnessed his confusion, problems speaking, and severe flu-like symptoms. I know that Patty has been pressing the staff about his difficulties lately so I am glad that the hospital nailed down the problem. From what I understand, the antibiotics for his other infections make Walt more susceptible to the clostridium infection which requires yet other antibiotics.
Nevertheless, Walt did seem to enjoy the donuts I brought prior to breakfast. And he was stoic in the face of his difficulties, due to inner strength and/or powerful medications.
We have a movie night planned for Saturday assuming Walt feels better. I'll post more about that later. He still owes us a blog message too. Let's see how it goes.
I'm glad you enjoyed his Tim Horton donuts, Corinne. Poor Walt.
So sad...poor Daddy :(
Keep fighting Walt, we are praying for you.

Doesn't Cream Ale kiil most infections?
Cousin Brian
Thursday evening update: Walt is now in room 22. I think the move is good to the extent that the room is closer to the nurses station and he can be more closely monitored there. There is actually a window between his room and the nurses station.
Walt was quite disoriented Thursday evening. I was glad to see that the staff was keeping a close watch on his blood pressure, oxygen levels and temperature. I tried to get Walt interested in a South Park video but he asked for the DVD remote control and tried to call Patty with it. That more or less reflects the way the evening progressed.
Regarding Brian's comment about the positive effects of Cream Ale, it certainly has a preservative effect which may account for Walt's youthful appearance. But Walt's long term usage of Cream Ale does not seem to have the desired antibacterial action that we might reasonably expect.
Patty says: Wow what a bad week. I thought that things were going along and then an infection, low blood pressure, return to oxygen, return to fluids, a trip to Strong to check for a brain bleed or fluid, a receptionist who forgot I was there. Why is this happening to us? It has been 4 months-am I having a bad dream? It has to get better, right? For 2 days, he has been totally confused, reaching for something that wasn't there and calling me 30 times to say that he lost his wallet and credit cards. This has to be a bad dream. I want my husband back. It is not fair to him that he has to fight for his life again and again. Please pray, very hard for my sweet husband who has been fighting so hard to get back home to us. He does not deserve this!! He is a wonderful, kind, loving, thoughtful husband and the best Dad ever. I love you Walter and I want you back soon!!!!! Always-Pat

I hope that, a few days on, Walt is feeling better from the antibiotics. Thinking of you all. Kath
Dear Patty, i think this reminds us how serious his injury is, also how far walt has come. I am prayerful walt will overcome this battle and make even greater gains as he did the last time.
No words can give you comfort, May God be your comfort.
We Love you all

A message from Bernie and Dick:
Hi Patty, Lindsay and Brian,
We can't believe this is happening all over again to Walt and all of you. We are so sorry for this setback, but like before, Walt will pull himself through this. This truly is a true test of one's faith, but you must believe that Walt will definitely get better. I'm sure there will be more setbacks before everything starts coming around. We are thinking of you always. Our love. Bernie and Dick
